Dental Implants are one of the most effective ways to replace a single tooth or multiple teeth with an Implant Supported Crown, Bridge or Dentures. A missing tooth or teeth can occur from a variety of reasons including an accident or disease.

Implants are posts placed into the upper or lower jawbone by a trained Implant Dentist. The posts are made from high-grade materials well accepted by the body like titanium or titanium-zirconium. The implant fuses to the jawbone and serves as support for a dental crown, bridge, and partial or full dentures.

When considering a Dental Implant Treatment, you should understand that implants can significantly vary in terms of quality and reliability. Your dentist should discuss key details about the implant including who manufactures the dental implants they use, how they perform, and what their life expectancy is. At El Dorado Family Dental, you have peace of mind that Dr. Albik is one of the most accomplished Dentists in Implant Dentistry.

The Benefits of Dental Implants go beyond the obvious cosmetic appearance of replacing a lost tooth or teeth. Dental Implants provide many benefits to your oral health, including:

  • Missing Teeth can cause shrinking of the jawbone
  • Implants provide the sturdy support needed for replaced teeth.
  • Supporting dentures, crowns or bridges with an implant prevents shifting or slipping while eating or speaking.
  • Tooth replacements secured to an implant provide a more natural feel and function compared to classic bridges and dentures.
  • Regular Dental Visits and proper Oral Care can allow implants to last a lifetime.
  • Our patients with implant supported dentures are more comfortable and reliable than traditional dentures.

According to the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, properly cared for, high quality dental implants have a 95% long-term success rate. This makes choosing an implant dentistry treatment plan provides you with a long-lasting and highly reliable solution for missing teeth.

Many patients focus on the cosmetic dental problems caused from missing teeth. However, in addition to the appearance to our smile, several dental and oral health problems can develop in the future from the loss of the tooth or teeth. Potential Oral Health Problems can include:

  • Bite Changes
  • Bone Loss
  • Chewing Difficulty
  • Gum Disease
  • Shifting and Drifting Teeth
  • Wearing Down of Remaining Natural Teeth
Fixed Implants Before & After

Implants can be used to support a dental crown for a single missing tooth, support a dental bridge, or to support full or partial dentures. Your dentist will take into consideration your current situation and previous oral care history when recommending a treatment plan to replace a single tooth or an implant supported bridge or denture.

A single tooth implant treatment will be used to replace a missing tooth’s roots. With a single tooth implant, there is no treatment needed for the natural teeth next to the implant. Common reasons that patients like you have decided to schedule a visit with our dental office to discuss their implant treatment options include:

  • Feeling self-conscious about a gap in their smile
  • A missing tooth is affecting the way they speak
  • A missing molar makes it hard to chew properly
  • Failing to treat a missing tooth or teeth can cause a shift in the natural teeth surrounding them
  • Missing teeth can lead to bone loss causing the remaining natural teeth to become loose

With a treatment plan that requires replacing multiple missing or damaged teeth, Dr. Albik may suggest an implant supported bridge or denture. Depending on the number of teeth being replaced, an implant supported bridge is a great option that does not rely on the healthy natural teeth for support. With this treatment option, an Dr. Albik places a single, or multiple implants in the jawbone to replace missing tooth roots to act as the support for the new bridge.

If your treatment requires replacement of all the upper and/or lower teeth, an implant supported denture may be recommended. With this treatment, Dr. Albik will place multiple implant posts into the upper or lower jawbone in place of the tooth roots. The benefit of an implant supported denture comes from the implants fusing to the jawbone, which allows better support of the dentures. Many patients have reported that the implant treatment allows them to bite and chew naturally and are more comfortable than traditional dentures.

The number of visits for your implant treatment procedure can vary depending on the treatment plan you and your dentist have chosen. A major benefit of choosing El Dorado Family Dental for your Dental Implant is Dr. Albik’s ability to perform the whole treatment process in-house at our dental office. By utilizing the latest dental technologies available, we can provide you with the safest, most comfortable and convenient implant experience available. This takes the inconvenience of visiting multiple offices to see oral surgeons and periodontists that is required by other dental practices.

1. Planning Your Implant

The first step in planning your implant involves taking a 3D digital scan of your jawbone and teeth. Dr. Albik will then use the latest technologies to digitally plan your implant placement and create detailed surgical guides. This process will provide a final result of total accuracy for the implant placement and ensure the safest and most effective procedure.

2. Oral Surgery to Place the Implant

The second step in the process is placing the implant in your jawbone through a surgical procedure. To ensure your comfort during this procedure, we can give you the option of a local anesthetic or offer you sedation options if you prefer. Dr. Albik will then place the post into your jawbone, securing the gum over the implant, and places a healing abutment that will remain during the healing process. Many patients report they feel less discomfort than a simple tooth extraction after the visit. Experiencing some swelling and tenderness over the following days is common as the healing process begins. The healing process between your implant surgery and final placement of the new teeth generally will take the most time in the process. During your recovery, a process called osseointegration is occurring. Osseointegration is the process of the jawbone growing around the implant to hold it in place and provide the strength needed. This healing time can take several months for the implant to become fully integrated to the jawbone.

3. Final Placement of the New Tooth or Teeth

Once the implant has fully fused to the jawbone, Dr. Albik will remove the healing abutment, replace it with custom abutment, and your new crown, bridge, or denture attached to the implant. Dr. Albik takes great care to ensure that the look, fit, feel and function are of the highest quality. This means you can rest assured the replacement tooth will blend with the remaining natural teeth, mirroring their shape, size, and color. The highlight of the implant procedure is the look of joy on your face when you first see that your beautiful smile has returned. Your appointment will end with a full review of the dental care and maintenance that your new implant requires.

4. Care and Maintenance for Your Implant

Like natural teeth, long lasting dental implants require proper oral hygiene and maintenance. This includes routine dental visits every six months, flossing once a day and brushing twice a day at a minimum, is critical to prevent plaque from forming around the implant. Following this simple routine will not only promote good dental health, but will aid in the longevity of your new dental implant, crown, bridge, or denture.

There are certain factors your dentist will review with you to decide if a dental implant is the rights treatment option for you. The biggest factor in deciding if you are the right candidate for an implant is more dependent on your overall health rather than your age. You should be in good health and have adequate bone in the jaw to support the implant.

For some patients, a missing tooth or teeth can lead to a deterioration of the jawbone. The deterioration can reduce the bone needed to support an implant. Dr. Albik can provide surgical options, including a bone graft or sinus lift, that may build the jawbone back up to allow an implant.

Patients with existing health conditions, such as diabetes and Osteoporosis, may experience slower healing times after surgery. To ensure the best outcome for your implant, it is vital to discuss your health history with your dentist before considering any dental procedure.

Dr. Albik will review your full health and dental history with you to evaluate if a dental implant is the best treatment option for you. Should you not be a suitable candidate for a dental implant, Dr. Albik may be able to recommend an alternative treatment plan based on your situation.
